What preventive dentistry services are available at our office?
At Family Dentistry of Caledonia, treating patients and improving their oral health is our core mission. A key aspect of this is the importance of taking good care of the teeth to reduce the risk of developing problems, such as tooth decay and gum disease. Drs. Gary Scott and Allyson Grove are committed to helping patients both achieve and maintain oral health and wellness through preventive dentistry.
What is preventive dentistry?
With preventive dentistry, patients can take a more proactive approach to their own oral health and wellness by keeping their teeth and gums clean and free from disease and decay. This includes at least regular six-month professional cleanings and examinations along with yearly radiographs. We also recommend certain services and treatments to achieve one’s goals.
What types of preventive dental care services are offered?
Our team provides the following preventive care services and treatments for our patients.
- Education on brushing and flossing. Learning how to properly and effectively brush and floss the teeth is critical to daily home care to keep plaque and tartar, and calculus from forming on the surfaces of both the teeth and the gums.
- Fluoride treatments. Applying fluoride to the teeth can help strengthen and protect them from cavities. Fluoride treatments can be administered to both children and adults.
- Dental sealants. Dental sealants are commonly used on the teeth near the back of the mouth, such as the molars, which have chewing surfaces with lots of crevices and areas for plaque and tartar to develop. They smooth out the surfaces of the molars to reduce the likelihood of problems.
- Treatment of bad breath from periodontal disease. A common symptom of periodontal disease, or gum disease, is persistent halitosis or bad breath. We can provide thorough periodontal cleanings that reduce bad breath and keep it under control throughout treatment.
